Santorinis ’s delectable products (wine, cherry tomatoes, fava beans, and white eggplants), the superior services offered, its diverse landscape, and the uniqueness of its beaches offer visitors an unrivaled visual experience. There are not many other sites in the world that can rival its almost metaphysical atmosphere and out-worldly landscape of Santorini.
Α. Fira – It is one of the most beautiful settlements in Greece. It was built on the rocks in an altitude of 260 meters. Its seaport is the bay of Fyra.
It was founded in the 18th century, following the Cycladic architectural style.
Β. Ia – It is found in a distance of 11 km from Fyra. Ia is the first village that can be seen by the visitor as he enters the caldera of the island. It was built above the bay of Armenis.
Its name was given by the Venetians occupiers, while its first name was Pano Meria, or St. Nicholas Castle.
C. Imerovigli – Located in a distance of km from Fyra. It offers a view towards the red rock of Scaros.
The settlement was founded in the middle of the 16th century, owing its name to the pirates (Imerovigli – Observation post during the daytime).
D. Megalochori – It is situated in a distance of 9 km from Fyra. One of the most picturesque villages of the island built in the 17th century.
About 60 years ago the village was owned by one of the wealthiest and most powerful families of the island, producers of the world famous sweet wine vinsanto, with exports all over the world.
Today the people count in the village does not exceed the 150 inhabitants.
Three of the island’s largest wineries are located here. A number of traditional taverns are also found here as well.
Ε. Pyrgos – Medieval Town, a gem built on the hill, over viewing the whole island. It is a Kastelli with the characteristics of the Venetian Empire.
Ζ. Emporeio – A castle city resembling Pyrgos in many ways. It was built during the years of the Venetian occupation. It is a solid settlement with a high density of buildings.
